Three killed in head-on crash in southeast Dallas

Dallas police say a car crossed the center line Tuesday night, leading to a head-on crash that killed three people. Police say the driver of a Nissan Altima was driving west on Loop 12-Great Trinity Forest Parkway just east of Interstate 45 about 8:15 p.m.

They say the Altima crossed the median into the eastbound lanes and hit a Ford Escape head-on.

The crash broke the Altima in half. Police say the engine block stayed on the bridge, but the part of the car carrying the 22 year old driver and two passengers hit the side wall and fell 50 feet into the grass next to the Trinity River. All three people died at the scene.

Only one person was inside the Ford Escape. The 28 year old driver went to the hospital and was in critical condition Wednesday morning.

Both sides of the bridge were closed for several hours after the crash Tuesday night and into early Wednesday.
