Officials with the McKinney School District are begging drivers to slow down after a group of high school students got hit by a car early this morning.

It happened near McKinney Boyd High School. The students were at cross country practice, and District Spokesperson Cody Cunningham says they were doing everything right.

"They followed all appropriate traffic procedures for crossing the crosswalk," Cunningham says. "They were wearing all of their safety and reflective gear."

He says the driver was likely distracted and just didn't see them. They had been stopped at a light and were turning left, into the crosswalk. The driver was going slow when they hit three cross country runners trying to cross the street.

"The students are doing well," Cunningham says. All three were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and are expected to be fine. "

"We want to reinforce the importance of safe driving in the morning," Cunningham says. "Especially around student drop off and pickup time."

Police say no criminal charges have been filed.
