To look or not to look. There's conflicting information about whether it's okay to look at the eclipse without special glasses if you are in the area of totality.
This is an actual controversy. First, nobody disputes that it's dangerous to your eyes if you look at any part of the sun, or a partial eclipse, without those special glasses. That will damage your eyes.
But if you are going to be in the area of totality - is it okay? On NASA's website, it says yes. If you are in the path of totality you can take the glasses off. So we asked Parkland ophthalmologist Doctor Agustin Gonzalez.
We also spoke with internationally known Dallas Ophthalmologist Doctor Cynthia Beauchamp. She said yes and no.
She is not letting her kids look at the eclipse during totality because it's too risky that they will watch too long, and they could suffer permanent eye damage.
