GRAPEVINE (1080 KRLD)- One special bird has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
Grapevine Mayor William Tate officially pardoned Tom T. Turkey today. The momentous occasion marks the end of fall in Grapevine— also known as the Christmas Capital of Texas. Folks gathered to wish Tom good luck in his retirement and to celebrate one season melting into the next.
“Hopefully he’ll spend retirement in a nice place,” one onlooker said.
“I’m very happy he was saved,” said another. “I’m super excited [for the Christmas season]. The lights and everything just makes it all come together.”
Kids and parents attending the event also got to take the first ride of the year on Grapevine’s North Pole Express. Many of them say they’ll be back tonight for the city’s annual Carol of Lights, which kicks off at 4 p.m.
