As 2023 comes to a close, KRLD revisits some of the biggest headlines and stories that have impacted Texas this year. From Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's trial and the search for a missing Everman boy to the shooting at the State Fair of Texas, and the Texas Rangers' World Series win, KRLD covered it all.
About 2.3 million people visited the State Fair of Texas this year. But KRLD's Steven Pickering reports the fall tradition for many families was disrupted by a Saturday night shooting.
The year 2023 has marked the eighth year that has come and gone without Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton standing criminal trial for securities fraud.
However, he was impeached and did stand trial in the Texas Senate. KRLD's L.P. Phillips covered the trial gavel to gavel.
Police and the FBI finally found and arrested Francisco Oropeza who shot a couple of neighbors in the town of Cleveland, Texas. His neighbors asked him to stop shooting his rifle in the backyard. Later that night he came into their home, shooting five dead.
In January - State lawmakers converged on Austin to gavel in for the 88th Legislature. During normal legislative years - they’d only be under the dome for 140 days, give or take. But as KRLD's Robyn Geske explains - because of one particular issue - the 88th session is still going on.
Texas Sports 2023: A year marked by monumental triumphs
It was an exhilarating year for Texas sports. The excitement reached an all time high in November when the Texas Rangers won the World Series in a remarkable victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks, making history with their first ever World Series title in franchise history.
Many businesses run in North Texas, like technology, manufacturing, and software companies. Some of the major businesses that KRLD Business Analyst David Johnson looked into this year revolved around airports and stadiums.
In March, Child Protective Services notified Everman Police that they had not heard from 6-year-old Noel Rodriguez-Alvarez since the previous November. Later in the year, his mother was charged with murder.
From an ice storm early in the year to severe weather and record-breaking heat into the spring and summer, 2023 was a roller coaster for weather across the state of Texas.
Eight people were killed and seven were injured in a mass shooting at Allen Premium Outlets on May 6, 2023. The gunman was fatally shot by a police officer.

'Girl Dinner' has generated more than 400 million hashtags, yet it's really not a new concept.
