A Collin County jury has sentenced 33-year old Ocaster Ferguson to life in prison for killing his girlfriend last year.
Ferguson took the witness stand in his punishment hearing to try and explain-away what happened.
The story that Ferguson told in trying to get a lower sentence was that he did not kill girlfriend Kayla Kelly. Though he had already been found guilty of murder, Ferguson claimed he had actually been kidnapped last year by another of Kelly's boyfriends, and that person had killed her.
The jury had already found that Ferguson smothered Kelly shortly after she had learned that Kelly was not the man he claimed that he was actually married and dating others. And the jury believed police testimony that Ferguson's cell phone put him at the scene of Kelly's grave in a rural area of Grand Prairie. Ferguson said that never happened.
The jury brushed that aside and sentenced him to life in prison...deliberating less than 30 minutes.
