FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD)- Trinity Habitat for Humanity has started building a home in the parking lot of Alcon, the eye care company with a campus in South Fort Worth. Trinity Habitat has built 800 homes since 1989. Twenty-two of those homes were built and moved, but this is the first to be built at Alcon.

"Fort Worth has given so much to us, it's just our pleasure to be giving back to the community," says Alcon's Rick Weisbarth.
Alcon employees are helping with the construction. The company has built two other homes for Trinity Habitat since 2019, but those were built at Sundance Square and at the Trinity Habitat campus.
The house is being built for Victoria Rodarte, a single mom with two kids.
"It's an amazing feeling just having strangers come together to help me build a home for me and my children," she says. "It feels great, just knowing I'll have a home of my own to provide for my children."
Rodarte is a dental assistant. Gage Yager, chief executive of Trinity Habitat, says families complete classes on subjects like budgeting and home maintenance before they receive a home.
"We want them self-reliant, confident, and going forth to conquer the world in their own way," Yager says. "That's what you and I do. We go forth to conquer our world in our own little way, trying to be the best me and the best you."
Families who receive a home will pay a mortgage and property tax. Weisbarth, with Alcon, says families in Habitat homes can bring a greater feeling of community to a neighborhood.
"That's what Habitat stands for is creating not only stronger families but stronger neighborhoods," he says. "One of the things we say at Alcon is our mission is helping people see brilliantly, but working together with Habitat, we're hoping to help them live brilliantly."
