TSA agents at San Antonio International Airport found an 84-millimeter anti-tank weapon in someone's checked bag this week. TSA posted a picture of the find on Twitter.
The agency urged people to learn rules for traveling with guns before going to the airport.
"TSA does not want to prevent people from travelling with their firearms or their guns," says TSA's Patricia Mancha. "What we want is for people to do so the right way."
TSA does allow for people to travel with guns in checked luggage only. They also must be unloaded, packed in a hard-sided case and locked. Guns must also be declared to the airline ahead of time.
Mancha says the passenger did not declare the rifle. A complete list of TSA guidelines for traveling with guns and ammunition is available here.
TSA has not confirmed whether the rifle was real or a replica. Replica guns are allowed in checked bags; replica explosives are not.
San Antonio Police will decide whether to file any charges. TSA has not said where the passenger was going.
