Within a year, TSA screening at DFW Airport could have a new self-service screening process, part of a Department of Homeland Security program called 'Screening at Speed.'

TSA compares this to self-ordering kiosks at restaurants and says it will allow passengers enrolled in the Trusted Traveler Program to complete the security screening process on their own.

TSA Senior Technical Adviser Charles Hall believes passengers will like it because it should speed and streamline the process of getting through the airport checkpoints.

TSA says travelers will use passenger and carry-on screening systems at individual consoles or screening lanes themselves, reducing the number of pat-downs and bag inspections from TSA Agents.

In the new year, the program will be tested in Las Vegas at Reid International Airport, and if it works out it could roll out at major airports like DFW soon after that.
