The suspect, 58-year-old Terry Darnell of Arlington, was then spotted in his Dodge Ram truck at which point officers attempted to stop him. This was subsequently followed by a slow-speed chase Northbound on the President George Bush Turnpike, exiting at W. Marshal Drive.

After stopping, the driver again accelerated his truck, this time intentionally ramming multiple police cars. Two of the cars were occupied at the time.

As if this wasn't enough, using his truck he then "drove one officer and her vehicle through the fence which protects the service road from President George Bush Turnpike."

It was at this point that officers fired at Darnell in order to prevent their colleague from being injured further. He was struck on the wrist following which officers were able to negotiate with him, prompting him to surrender.

Darnell and the officer were both taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Darnell is currently being held on one count of Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant, a First Degree Felony. He may face further charges as the investigation progresses.

As is standard protocol when officers are involved in a shooting, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Officer-Involved Shooting Team and the Grand Prairie Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards will be conducting their own investigations.

The officers involved have also been placed on administrative leave - again as per protocol.
