Fines incoming for Texas power companies that fail to prepare for winter weather

New guidelines to be written for power companies to winterize equipment

State lawmakers have directed the Public Utility Commission to write new guidelines for power companies to winterize their equipment.

Our partners at NBC 5, asked Peter Lake, who is the chairman of the Public Utility Commission if those rules will be in place, early enough to make a difference this winter.

He said that the Public Utilities Commission is requiring generators in Texas to be up to federal weatherization standards and to mitigate any problems that they had last winter.

Anything that broke last winter has to be fixed by December 1st.

Any power generators that fail to meet the new requirements will be subject to a fine of one million dollars per day, per incident.  ​
