As North Texas shivers through one of its coldest snaps in years, Texas Department of Transportation crews are continuing around-the-clock operations to clear highways and help keep major roadways passable amid icy conditions.

The agency says ditching, brining and clearing efforts across the region are ongoing as crews battle slick surfaces and freezing temperatures that have made travel treacherous.

Throughout the past several days, TxDOT workers in the Dallas area and across multiple districts have been treating roads with anti-ice brine solutions and plowing where necessary to combat ice buildup on pavement, bridges and overpasses.

Officials say the process is slow and demanding, especially when temperatures hover well below freezing and the ice risk remains high, but added that they’re prepared to keep crews active as long as conditions require.

In social media posts, TxDOT District offices have shared images of crews working early mornings and into the night, and urged drivers to slow down, give treatment vehicles space, and check DriveTexas.org for real-time road conditions before heading out.

State transportation leaders continue to echo safety advice from weather officials: if travel isn’t absolutely necessary, stay home and let road crews do their work. Authorities warn that even treated roads can remain slick and hazardous until temperatures rise and conditions improve.
