The Texas Department of Transportation is resuming a plan years in the making to redesign a key stretch of Interstate 345 in Dallas. The project aims to better connect downtown and Deep Ellum.

At a public meeting held Tuesday night, TxDOT officials shared updated proposals for the I-345 corridor, which runs from Interstate 30 to Woodall Rodgers. The agency has long explored options to either remove or redesign the elevated highway to improve connectivity and urban flow.

The existing I-345 is a six-lane elevated freeway, with three lanes in each direction. The proposed redesign would lower the mainlanes while constructing bridges over the freeway for major streets such as Elm Street and Live Oak Street.

The project is still in the planning phase, with public input playing a key role in shaping its future. Another public meeting is scheduled for Thursday night at Saint Philip’s School and Community Center in Dallas.
