Unemployment benefits in Texas will continue uninterrupted for the next few months
An extension of the CARES act means Texans will keep getting those funds through March 13th. James Bernsen with the Texas Workforce Commission says
"Traditional unemployment benefits will be extended for people who are affected by Covid-19 and there will also be an additional $300 in benefits on top of that from the federal government."
He says "there are many people who would like to get back to work, but it's very difficult because of the ongoing pandemic. These are additional benefits that will help people pay bills. I'm sure it will be reassessed in March."
The 300 dollars is weekly. Bernsen says there have been 6.6 million claims in Texas since March 14th. Nearly 2.9 million Texans have filed for unemployment and the state has paid out 37.3 billion dollars.
