Now that diversity in higher education has been outlawed in Texas, the University of North Texas has shut down it's office of diversity, equity and inclusion.

The university confirmed in an email to KRLD. It comes after a new law signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott outlawed such offices in higher education.

UNT will officially close its diversity office on October 1st, when the vice president in charge of it retires. The president says he hopes to reassign others in the office to other jobs.

He also says administrators are considering how to reorganize the Multicultural Center, Pride Alliance, and other programs.

"We will remain steadfast in living our values and serving our diverse community. We know that we are better together" said the university president.
