The University of North Texas Health Science Center issued a lockdown on Wednesday afternoon when police received a call about someone on campus possibly carrying a rifle. A search by police revealed the person was actually carrying camera equipment.

The first reports came in at 12:30 pm about someone entering the Interdisciplinary Research and Education Building. The university issued an alert notifying people on campus to seek shelter because of the "potential for violence". Students and employees remained in their labs and classrooms while police searched the building. Dozens of officers from the Fort Worth Police Department arrived on campus to assist.

"At approximately 2:15 the suspected individual was identified and confirmed not to be armed or to be any threat. It was confirmed that the individual in question was carrying camera equipment," said UNT HSC Chief Executive Officer Ruth Roman.

"All is safe. We take the safety of our entire campus and the community at large extremely seriously, and that is why we move quickly when we get these kinds of reports."

She says the University will make counseling services available to those who need it.
