The Texas Department of Public Safety wants to conduct another interview with Uvalde Consolidated ISD Police Chief Pete Arredondo as part of their investigation into the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School.
DPS officials say Arredondo spoke with investigators with the Texas Rangers after the shooting, but has not responded to their request for a follow-up interview.
The head of the DPS has criticized Arredondo's actions at the school. Director Steve McCraw said last week that Arredondo made the "wrong decision" when he treated the case as a "barricaded person" call and not an active shooter.
Arredondo was sworn in as a new member of the Uvalde City Council on Tuesday in a private ceremony. The public event originally scheduled for the swearing-in was cancelled. He was elected on May 7th.
The Texas DPS has also released new information about the actions of a teacher on the day of the school shootings. Investigators had said they believe a teacher propped open an exterior door that 18-year-old Salvador Ramos had used to enter the building. After a further review of security camera footage, officials have revised their description of those events.
The DPS says the teacher had used a rock to prop open the door, but the teacher removed the rock and closed the door when she saw Ramos outside the school and realized there was a threat. The door did not lock. Investigators are looking into why it did not.
