While Chair of the Dallas County Democratic Party, Kardal Coleman says their annual Labor Day Picnic is about standing in solidarity with the Labor movement he also says it's their kickoff event to this upcoming election season.
"Plenty of candidates for the municipal elections that are coming up this November, sending information about the constitutional amendments that's coming up this November," said Coleman. "Also the individuals that will be on the primary ballot in March."
Being able to connect and learn more about the candidates is one of the concerns Coleman says they often hear from their voters.
Those in attendance of the event backed up this statement as well.
"All in all, I think it's a good opportunity for both candidates and the people doing the voting to be involved," said one Dallas man. "Which I think is very important."
A woman from Mesquite who was accompanying her mother says she thinks events like these are a good opportunity to question candidates and actually hear their ideas.
"When you just see it in the ads, you see all this advertisement and marketing, you don't just see the ideas," said one attendee.
Coleman says the theme for this year's picnic isn't just supporting the labor movement but more specifically respecting workers.
