West Texas mom arrested for posing as her teen daughter at school

The mother of a 13-year-old girl in West Texas has been arrested for posing as her daughter and spending a day at her middle school.

Casey Garcia, 30, posted video of the trip on YouTube.

Garcia's daughter attends Garcia-Enriquez Middle School in San Elizario, about 10 miles southeast of El Paso. Garcia recorded video of herself throughout the day on her phone.

"Oh my God. I'm going to get so caught," Garcia says near the beginning of the six minute video. "I'm actually really scared now."

Garcia says she was testing security at the school. The video shows her sitting in classes and teachers greeting her by her daughter's name.

Near the end of the day, a teacher taking attendance notices she is not a student.

"I finally got caught," she said in the video. "I told them I would go to the principal's office, so I guess we're going to see what happens."

Garcia also recorded video of El Paso County sheriff's deputies coming to her home. She was arrested on charges of criminal trespass and tampering with government records. Garcia has since posted bond.

The superintendent of San Elizario ISD says local authorities are handling the case. Jeannie Mesa-Chavez says the district is also reviewing security measures.
