A massive wildfire has charred more than 80,000 acres across Jack and Palo Pinto counties, leaving a heavy blanket of acrid smoke over the region and forcing widespread evacuations.
The Ross Fire, fueled by dry vegetation and gusty winds, swept quickly through rural land earlier this week. The rapid onset of the blaze forced dozens of residents to flee their homes, ranches, and livestock with little notice.
Emergency management crews and local fire departments continue working to contain the perimeter. As conditions moderately improve in certain sectors, local authorities have begun allowing some property owners back into evacuated zones to assess structural damage and loss of property.
No immediate fatalities have been reported, though damage assessment teams are currently surveying the full extent of the destruction. Emergency shelters remain open for displaced families as firefighting efforts continue.
