North Texas residents are seeing delayed mail delivery this week as Winter Storm Fern’s snow, ice and dangerously cold temperatures made roads unsafe for postal carriers and slowed mail processing across the region.
The U.S. Postal Service has warned that the storm’s sweeping impacts from Texas through much of the Southeast and into the Northeast have caused disruptions to delivery and transportation operations, with severe weather prompting delayed routes and service adjustments to protect workers and public safety.
Many customers in Texas and surrounding states have reported not receiving mail since last week, and USPS service alerts show winter weather advisories remain in effect as crews work to restore normal schedules once conditions improve.
The situation stands in contrast to the familiar (but unofficial) postal slogan — “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds” — a phrase historically associated with the Postal Service but not an official mandate, and one that does not guarantee delivery under extreme weather conditions like ice-covered roads or travel hazards.
