Winter weather leads to delays at DFW, Love Field

Parts of North Texas could receive up to a quarter inch of ice accumulation from the winter storm currently moving over the region, and the weather led to the FAA holding flights inbound for DFW Airport and Love Field at their departing airport for a period Tuesday morning.

The ground stop has been lifted, but the majority of flights listed at DFW Airport Tuesday afternoon were either delayed or cancelled.

"DFW Airport continues monitoring the forecast and has made preparations for this week's winter weather. Airport runways, roadways, bridges, and pedestrian walkways have been and will continue to be treated for any potential ice to ensure safety," DFW wrote on Twitter.

"I know that's not the normal weather in the region, yeah?" one man arriving from Singapore said.

He was flying to College Station and arrived Monday night, but his connection was cancelled, so he spent the night in North Texas and said, "at least, for now," his flight Tuesday was on time.

Another man flying from Grand Rapids, Michigan says he found out mid-flight his connection to Roswell, New Mexico was cancelled. He says American booked him on a flight to Phoenix that would connect him to Roswell, but that flight was then cancelled, as well.

He credits American ticket agents working the counters at DFW with helping him search for other options, including Albuquerque, Amarillo and Lubbock. He said he could drive the rest of the way.

"They're doing the best they can," he says. "It's terrible times for them, too."

With cancellations and delays ongoing, DFW Airport urges passengers on departing flights to check with their airline before coming to the airport and watch their airline's schedule for changes.

DFW also encourages people to leave extra time getting to the airport to deal with longer travel times because of icy roads.
