A woman was killed in a shooting outside a Dallas strip club over the weekend.
Dallas Police say Shalonda Lofton was shot by a security guard outside the XTC Cabaret, loaded off I-35E.
Detectives say Lofton tried to run down a female security guard who fired in return. A male security guard also shot at the woman's car but police now say the woman in the car was hit by shots fired by the female guard. The case will be turned over to the grand jury to decide if any charges will be filed.
This is not the first time shots have been fired near the club. Over the years Dallas Police have responded to several assaults and shootings outside the club.
The last two fatal shootings occurred in both 2017 and 2019.
Dallas Police asked for help curbing the overnight violence, so the City Council voted unanimously to order all strip clubs and other adult businesses to close their doors between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia told KRLD the ordinance was sorely needed. But a federal judge shot down the ordinance saying police stats were flawed and didn't accurately reflect the impact sex-based businesses have on Dallas crime and police and fire resources.
