We heard the story Monday about the woman who drowned when her car got caught in the floodwaters in Mesquite under the bridge at Military Pkwy near 635.
It has to be one of the scariest thoughts that you can't get out of your car in this kind of situation. We're always told to "Turn around, don't drown".
What happens if you do get caught in a flood?
On today's Ask The Expert, Lauren Sanchez joined us. She's the Emergency Management Coordinator for Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville, & Lancaster.
SUGGESTIONS:
'Seatbelt. Windows. Out. '
1. Remove your seatbelt.
2. Roll down your window immediately (electric windows should still work after an engine has stalled). Use the headrest to smash out the window, hit the corner toward the front.
3. If you have children with you, push them out first before getting out.
4. Get out.
5. Climb onto the roof of your car and hang on to whatever you can. That's when you call 911.
