On Saturday, the latest bombshell for Republicans to seethe over was dropped, inexplicably, from the street where the air is always sweet.
Big Bird, the 8-foot, bright yellow Muppet from children’s television series Sesame Street, sent out a tweet announcing his excitement at getting his COVID vaccine.
The character is meant to perpetually be 6 years old, meaning he only just became eligible to get the shot.
Almost as soon as the tweet went live, some members of the G.O.P. showed just how ruffled their own feathers were.
Of course, Big Bird’s pro-vax stance is nothing new. He and the program he appears on have been allaying children’s fears about shots for decades, teaching them the reason behind the pricks, as Sesame Street's official Twitter account later pointed out.
The show has also not shied away from discussing COVID-19, having previously taught kids about why facemasks were suddenly a part of life.
