Netflix cancellations in the U.S. almost tripled after the company's co-founder and chairman, Reed Hastings, announced he was backing Kamala Harris' and supported her campaign.

Hastings first announced his support for the running candidate on an X post around the end of July. Later he donated $7 million to a super PAC supporting her campaign. He stated that it was the most he had ever donated to a candidate.

Bloomberg reported that just three days after Hastings made it public that he donated to the campaign, July 26th became the worst day for Netflix cancellations. It turned out that the US canceled Netflix at a higher rate of 2.8% more than any other month since this February.

However, after July 29th, cancellations went back to the normal. Bloomberg reports that many customers may have axed their accounts because the streaming giant killed its basic plan.
