BANGOR, Maine — A private jet carrying eight people crashed while attempting to take off from Bangor International Airport Sunday evening amid a major winter storm, federal officials confirmed.

The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. local time as snow and icy conditions persisted across the region, forcing emergency crews to respond and closing the airport.

The aircraft, a Bombardier Challenger 600 business jet, was registered to KTKJ Challenger LLC, a company that shares an address with Houston-based personal injury law firm Arnold & Itkin, according to federal registration records and aviation tracking data.

Authorities have not yet released the identities or conditions of the eight individuals aboard, and it is unclear whether any of the firm’s principals were on the flight.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it is investigating the crash alongside the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and emergency responders remained on the scene Monday morning as part of the ongoing examination. Bangor International Airport officials confirmed the runway closure and urged the public to avoid the area while crews work.

The crash comes as Winter Storm Fern brought snow, sleet and freezing rain to much of the eastern United States, disrupting thousands of flights and creating hazardous travel conditions on both airfields and roadways. At the time of the accident, visibility was reduced due to snow, though officials have not indicated whether weather directly contributed to the mishap.
