Even into the summer of 2021, former President Donald Trump reportedly believed that he would still get a second term in the White House – eight months after officially losing the 2020 Presidential election to Joe Biden and five months after Biden’s inauguration.

A new book by ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl – “Tired of Winning” – describes Trump’s mindset throughout the first half of his first year out of office.

Trump “became fixated on an entirely unconstitutional idea” that he could be reinstalled as President of the United States, according to the book.

“Trump’s bitterness over his 2020 election loss was paired with his fixation on a “blatantly unconstitutional” theory that he could return to power,” Karl told “This Week.”

Karl highlighted a statement Trump made in June 2021 where he talked about returning to the Presidency in “2024 or before.” He said when he personally asked Trump about that claim, Trump responded, “I’m not going to explain it to you because you wouldn’t either understand it or write it.”

Trump’s obsession with the claim, which he spoke a lot about “in private,” worried many of his advisers, Karl said.

“Tired of Winning” hits bookstores Tuesday, November 14.
