Former President Donald Trump is looking to mix things up with President Joe Biden in a battle of the wits, having challenged his upcoming opponent to a cognitive test.
The remarks from Trump came while he spoke on Saturday night during a speech at a convention of Turning Point Action in Detroit.
“He doesn’t even know what the word ‘inflation’ means. I think he should take a cognitive test like I did,” Trump said.
However, Trump raised eyebrows when he went on to mess up the name of the doctor who gave him the test, referring to now Texas Republican Rep. Ronny Jackson, who was the White House physician for some of his presidency, as “Ronny Johnson.”
“Doc Ronny Johnson. Does everyone know Ronny Johnson, congressman from Texas? He was the White House doctor, and he said I was the healthiest president, he feels, in history, so I liked him very much indeed immediately,” Trump said.
The moment came just a day after Trump turned 78, though he maintains that he is in far better shape physically and mentally than Biden, who is 81.
In 2018, Trump took a cognitive test at his own request. Jackson shared with reporters that the test was meant to detect early signs of memory loss and other mild cognitive impairment.
The former president has since continuously called out Biden for his refusal to take a test despite many calling for him to do so.
The Biden campaign’s X account was quick to point out that Trump messed up Jackson’s name during his speech, though the campaign has not yet declined or accepted the challenge.
Both men have taken every chance to remark on the other’s age and cognitive status following slip-ups and mistakes during speeches or appearances.
A majority of voters have expressed that they feel both Trump and Biden are too old for another term, though more voters feel this to be the case with the elder Biden.
