A new report shows that 118 international students in Texas have been asked to leave the United States, part of a broader effort that has impacted roughly 600 students nationwide.

Immigration attorney Robert Hoffman, based in Bellaire, said the move appears to be part of a push by the Trump administration to remove individuals who could be perceived as potential threats. He believes recent anti-Israeli protests on college campuses may have played a role in the increased scrutiny.

Hoffman noted that when a student loses their visa status, it also affects their dependents—including spouses and children—who are in the country under the same visa umbrella.
