Texas Gov. Greg Abbott formally launched his campaign Sunday to seek a record-breaking fourth full term in office, making the announcement at an event in Houston.
Abbott, a Republican, entered the 2026 race bolstered by a reported $87 million in campaign funds and a track record of conservative policy achievements, including education reforms, redistricting efforts and property tax cuts.
He framed his reelection bid around continuing the state's economic momentum and rolling out sweeping property tax reforms, including proposals to cap appraisals, tie spending growth to inflation and population, and let voters decide on eliminating school property taxes.
The campaign sets up a high-stakes contest as Democrats already have declared candidates, and if Abbott wins, he would surpass previous governors to become the longest-serving in state history.
