Ag Commissioner's political consultant accused of taking bribes in return for securing hemp licenses

A political consultant for Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has been indicted on felony charges related to taking money in exchange for state hemp licenses that are distributed through Miller's office.

Based on police documents, Todd Smith was arrested last year and accused of taking $55,000 as part of the scheme.

Smith and others were accused of soliciting up to $150,000 to get an "exclusive" hemp license from the Texas Department of Agriculture. A hemp license actually costs $100.

The felony indictments include theft and commercial bribery.
