A north Texas woman who reportedly displayed a gun in the emergency room at Arlington Memorial Hospital has been confirmed dead after an interaction with law enforcement.
At approximately 9 a.m., Saturday, Arlington police were notified by the Arlington Memorial Hospital that a woman entered its emergency room lobby, displayed a handgun, and made suicidal comments.
A security employee confronted her and told her she needed to leave. The woman then exited the building and left hospital property before Arlington PD officers arrived on the scene.
Once investigators were able to identify the woman as Victoria Edwards, they began searching for her, pushing a bulletin to other regional law enforcement partners.
On Saturday afternoon, the Denton County Sheriff’s Office notified Arlington PD that their deputies located Edwards at the Greenbelt Corridor Park. When officers tried to make contact with her, she pointed her gun at them and refused to follow orders, the sheriff’s office shared in a press release.
The deputies were then forced to open fire, striking the woman. They attempted to offer emergency medical aid after the shooting, but Edwards succumbed to the injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the release shared.
An investigation by the Texas Rangers is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
