The incoming Total Solar Eclipse is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, with people all over the country making plans to travel to Texas to get the best view possible.

Unfortunately, it’ll cost them.

According to Bloomberg, budget motels and hotels along the Path of Totality are charging guests $1,000 a night to stay during the eclipse.

The Wine Country Inn in Fredericksburg is charging $1,288.19 with taxes for a king room the night before the event, more than eight-times its normal price.  The Inn at Uvalde is asking $1,325.56 for a queen bed, 10 times its normal rate.

Similar prices for rooms can be seen in the towns of Junction, Kerrville and Comfort.

For such a rare occurrence, people are willing to pay.  This will be the first total solar eclipse visible in North America since 2017, and there won’t be another one “covering such a large swath of the continent” until 2045.
