More than a dozen years since her last Olympic appearance, Longhorns-great Cat Osterman returned last night to lead the Team USA softball team to a 2-0 win in its first game of the Tokyo Olympics tournament.

The Houston native took the ball against Italy and tossed six shut-out innings and did not give up a hit until the fifth. She struck out nine.

Softball was removed as an Olympic sport in 2012 and 2016.

Osterman was a standout the last time softball was played in the Olympics, leading the 2008 Team USA to the Silver Medal in Beijing.

Now 38, Osterman has played pro ball sporadically in the past 13 years. Since 2014, she's been an assistant coach at Texas State in San Marcos.
