Texas is getting a new state park in Central Texas.

It will be a year to a year and a half before the 2,000 acres across the Colorado River from Colorado Bend State Park is open for hiking. Todd McClanahan, Texas state parks chief of programs says the hill country land has stunning views and a mature post oak forest. He says state parks see about nine million visitors a year.

They haven't done that in more than 20 years. They are also exploring an additional 1,100-acre property in Lampasas and Burnet counties. Texas lost Fairfield Lake state park in Freestone County in 2023 after it was sold to a developer.
