With a Wind Advisory issued for much of west and north Texas today, it means there could be an increased chance for more dangerous wildfires across the state.
Officials say over 700 fires have broken out across Texas this month and the ones expected this week will likely take away much of the progress crews have already made on containment.
Erin O'Connor with the Texas A&M Forest Service says in areas like the Texas Panhandle we may even expect a Southern Plains Wildfire outbreak.
Dry conditions, high temperatures and stronger winds all factor into the dangerous conditions. O'Connor says extra crews are in position across areas of concern. They'll especially rely on extra air support from crafts that can drop water and flame retardant.
The biggest worry right now is the Critenberg Complex fire on the north side of Fort Hood and in adjacent Coryell County.
The Crittenberg fire has burned more than 33,000 acres and is just 55 percent contained. The other big blaze is the Das Goat fire in Medina County where progress is being made. It's now 95 percent contained.
O'Connor says people should stay inside and do their part to help prevent any additional blazes. People can also reach out to their local level emergency services to learn where to lend support.
