Court documents may have finally revealed the motive for the murder of a soldier at Fort Hood more than two years ago.
US Army Sgt. Vanessa Guillen disappeared from Fort Hood, Texas in April of 2020. Her body was found two months later.
FBI investigators have said that fellow soldier Aaron Robinson killed Guillen. They say Robinson shot and killed himself the day after Guillen's body was found.
A third person was indicted for helping Robinson hide Guillen's body.
Court documents may now show a motive for Guillen's murder. Texas DPS officials interviewed the third person, Cecily Aguilar, and have now filed information from that interview in federal court.
Reports say Aguilar was dating Robinson and says Robinson killed Vanessa Guilen because she saw a picture of Aguilar on Robinson's phone. Aguilar was married to another soldier, and investigators say Robinson killed Guillen because he was worried he'd get into trouble for violating Army's rules against fraternization.
According to documents, Aguilar told investigators she and Robinson used a machete, an ax, an Army entrenching tool, and two knives to dismember Guillen’s body.
Contractors working on a fence along the Leon River discovered what appeared to be human remains two months after Guillen vanished. DNA tests confirmed the remains to be those of Guillen.
Aguilar has been indicted on 11 counts releated to Guillen's murder and is awaiting trial.
