Drugs may have played a factor in the fatal crash of a concrete truck and a school bus in Central Texas.
The 42-year-old driver of the concrete truck, Jerry Hernandez, was arrested on a charge of criminally negligent homicide on Friday.
Court documents obtained by KEYE television in Austin say Hernandez admitted to smoking marijuana the night before the crash, getting little sleep, and taking cocaine that morning, March 22nd.
The Hays Consolidated ISD bus was returning from a trip to the Bastrop Zoo when it was hit and rolled over.
The crash killed 5-year-old Ulises Rodriguez Montoya and a 33-year-old man. Superintendent Eric Wright praised the bus driver for taking evasive action that saved many other lives.
The crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not said how fast the vehicles were traveling.
