The Texas Supreme Court is giving lawyers for the victims of a mass shooting in El Paso a wide berth to get documents.
Without comment, the Supreme Court let a lower court ruling stand that allows wide latitude in gathering information about the Walmart involved in the August 2019 shooting in El Paso. 23 were killed and another 23 wounded when a gunman opened fire.
The FBI says Patrick Crusius drove from Allen to El Paso just to shoot Hispanics. He is awaiting trial for capital murder.
In the meantime, relatives of the victims have filed a massive civil lawsuit that accuses Walmart of failing to protect customers. The lawyers from Walmart said the request was too broad and needed to be whittled down. But the ruling today allows the request to go forward.
Even today there are depositions taking place in Austin with lawyers questioning Walmart employees.
