A federal judge in Plano has sentenced a Colombian lawyer to prison for double-crossing drug dealers.

According to court reports, 49-year old Maritza Ramirez an attorney from Colombia twisted the terms of a so-called truce between Colombia's government and a revolutionary faction to convince drug dealers to pay her to help keep them out of prison. And the cases stretched all the way into Plano.

Federal prosecutors say the peace deal between the two parties dealt with an ongoing insurgency fight in Colombia. Both sides agreeed that anyone who took part in the insurgency wouldn't go to jail.

Ramiriz convinced the drug dealers that they could be included in the deal if they paid her. And they did, at least $3 millon accorinng to court reports. But it affected a number of prosecutions here in North Texas which is why Ramirez was indicted and convicted.

Now she has been sent to federal prison for just over 7 years.
