The firearm season for hunting white-tailed deer is now open in Texas.
This is the first week for firearm hunters although bow hunting season began in early October.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department says the deer population in Texas is about 5.5 million this year.
Deer hunting is big business in the state, generating about $1.2 billion in economic output, including everything from hotels and restaurants to lease fees and hunting equipment.
TPW says there are deer in all 254 Texas counties except tw; Hudspeth and El Paso in far west Texas.
