Five people are being treated for rabies in North Texas after they were exposed to a cow who died from the disease.
The Cooke County Sheriff's Office says rabies was confirmed in the 10-year-old cow after it died.
Officials say two owners, two assistants and a veterinarian were all exposed to the cow's saliva as they tried in vain to save the animal. Those five have already received treatment and will continue to undergo treatment.
Cooke County Sheriff Ray Sappington says doctors believe the cow was exposed to a rabid skunk. The remaining herd of 39 cows, located in northwestern Cooke County, has been quarantined and vaccinated.
