Governor Abbott sent a letter to the EPA, rejecting new air federal air pollution limits.

The limits were set by the EPA a year ago to lower the amount of soot (a black powdery or flaky substance) from 12 to nine micrograms per cubic meter.

Ian Seimens, the Dallas City Hall advocate for Environment Texas says 12 counties, including Dallas, Tarrant, and Harris are not meeting those standards, and then the state has already sued the feds over these rules.

Seimens says soot is the most dangerous kind of air pollution. The EPA estimated the stronger standard would avoid up to 4,500 premature deaths and 800,000 cases of asthma.
