It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been in a relationship with someone, chances are you still fight about someone taking up too much space in the bed.
It’s a tale for couples as old as time, but there’s a very simple solution: How about just separate beds?
A recent survey of 2,000 Americans found that 49% of people would be willing to sleep in a bed separate from their partner if it meant a better night’s sleep.
The survey found the average person usually gets less than four good nights of sleep a week, with their biggest nightly grievances being their partner stealing the covers (35%), waking them up tossing and turning (35%), sleeping with the television on (28%), snoring (28%), and sleeping with the lights on (27%).
JD Velilla, head of sleep experience at Serta Simmons Bedding, said in a statement per StudyFinds, “Great sleep is grounded in maintaining a strong sleep routine, whether you sleep on your own or co-sleep. For those who are looking to optimize co-sleeping, it’s important to work with your partner to commit to good sleep habits including regular sleep and wake times and minimizing light before bedtime.
“I also suggest removing unnecessary distractions from the bedroom, transforming it into a sleep sanctuary.”
Apparently “unnecessary distractions” means your partner!
