Houston men's basketball fans devise plan to avoid 'Cruz Curse'

The Houston Cougars men's basketball team tips off in its Final Four matchup against Duke on Saturday, and fans have a plan to keep a certain so-called curse as far away as possible.

This petition on change.org begs Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) to challenge the 25-hour Senate filibuster record set only days ago by Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ). Houston fans say the aim is simple: if Cruz spends this weekend in Washington, no chance he'd be at their game, and the so-called "Cruz Curse" is avoided.

For those not in the know, the semi-joke is that Cruz has been present during some major losses by Texas college and professional teams. One recent example is the sweep of the Houston Astros by the Detroit Tigers last October during the MLB Wild Card series.

In fairness to Cruz, it hasn't happened every time, but fans are most certainly trying to banish any feeling of bad luck or superstition ahead of the big game.

The Houston Cougars are only two wins away from their first ever NCAA men's championship.
