Former State Senator Kelly Hancock says his first order of business as the chief clerk of the Texas Comptroller's office is getting to know the people who run it.
He will take over Glenn Hegar's duties when Hegar leaves next month to become the next Texas A&M University system chancellor.
Hancock says he will be working closely with Governor's Greg Abbott's new DOGE committee.
"We'll be providing the information to that DOGE committee and working hand in hand with the Governor," Hancock said.
"To make sure the financial information we provide, we run government very efficiently."
The North Richland Hills republican has announced his candidacy to remain at the top spot at the comptroller's office in the March primary.
He will be up against Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick and former State Senator Don Huffines.
