The Killeen Mall resumes normal hours today after a wild scene on Saturday night.
Police have identified John Darrel Schultz, 53, as the man who drove into the Killeen Mall during a police chase Saturday, striking five people before being fatally shot by officers.
The chase began after Schultz was suspected of driving intoxicated. He crashed through JCPenney’s entrance, driving hundreds of yards inside the store.
Injuries ranged from a 6-year-old to a 75-year-old. Four people were injured by the pickup truck as it drove through the mall and were taken to a hospital while a fifth person went to the hospital on their own,
Law enforcement, including two off-duty officers who were in the mall shopping with their families at the time, stopped Schultz in a gunfire exchange.
The mall reopened Sunday afternoon and resumes normal holiday hours today.
“It’s unfortunate that this has happened, and our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this incident,” a Killeen Mall spokesperson told CNN in a statement. “Our priority is the safety and well-being of our employees and guests. As the investigation is ongoing, we cannot provide any further comments.”
