
Two members of the Texas Congressional delegation are asking the EPA to say 'no' to the state's request to set it's own environmental rules.
Austin Democratic Congressman Lloyd Doggett and San Antonio Democratic Congressman Joaquin Castro have sent a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency urging them to reject an application by the Texas Railroad Commission.
Texas wants to regulate the underground storage of carbon dioxide, which is a strategy to prevent that gas from entering the atmosphere and contributing to global warming.
In most of the country the process is regulated by the EPA.
The two Congressman wrote a letter to the EPA saying that the agency should reject request from Texas. They told federal regulators they thought the Railroad Commission had a history of waiving its own rules to favor oil and gas companies.
