COVID-19 changed our public education landscape nearly overnight. Thousands of Texas schools and nearly 5.5 million students faced a school year like never before.
And learning loss was real.
The 2021 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) results released in June showed the number of students not meeting grade level standards increase across almost every grade level and subject area.
This week, Children at Risk released the 2021 School Rankings: PANDEMIC EDITION II, breaking schools down into the top "Pandemic Resilient Schools", and "Red Flag Schools."
Pandemic Resilient Schools are school campuses with 75% or more students classified as economically disadvantaged and also have a history of high performance. These schools experienced either an increase or no change in academic performance scores during the Pandemic.

2. THOMAS JEFFERSON HS - DALLAS ISD
3. MOISES E MOLINA HS - DALLAS ISD
4. STRAWN SCHOOL- STRAWN ISD
5. YOUNG WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP ACADEMY - FORT WORTH ISD
6. YOUNG MEN'S LEADERSHIP ACADEMY - FORT WORTH ISD
7. EARLY COLLEGE HS - CFB ISD
8. BRYAN ADAMS HS - DALLAS ISD
9. SUNSET HS - DALLAS ISD
10. HILLCREST HS - DALLAS ISD
The Red Flag Schools list calls attention to schools that were expected to be resilient based on previous academic achievements, but experienced decreases in academic performance during the Pandemic.
